Belgrade (Serbian: Beograd or Београд) is the capital of Serbian culture, education, science and economy. Its name translates to White city.

Belgrade is located at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers. It is one of the oldest cities in Europe and has been an important crossing of the ways where the roads of eastern and western Europe meet.

According to the statistic report of International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) for the year 2014, Serbia took 46th place in world by the number of held meetings per country, and Belgrade took 50th place by the number of meetings per city.

The climate zone is humid subtropical, and the average temperature in October is 20.0 °C (68.0 °F). The official language is Serbian (belonging to the Slavic group of languages), while visitors from abroad can use English to communicate.

The local currency is Serbian dinar, RSD (1 Euro ~ 123 RSD). The value of dinar changes frequently, so please be informed about it at the time of your travel.

Belgrade is well connected to other European cities by all means of transportation.

By Airplane

Belgrade’s international airport “Nikola Tesla” (BEG) is located 12 km from the city center. It has direct and connecting flights to various destinations worldwide. You can take a taxi or public transportation to get to the city centre from the airport.

If you use a taxi, the safest way is to contact the city service TAXI INFO desk, located in the baggage reclaim area of the airport. There are many “freelance” drivers at the airport, offering their services, but they are usually much more expensive. The price of a taxi ride varies according to the covered distance, and should not exceed 20 Euro to the city centre. You can check current prices at this link.

If you use a public bus, there are two options, mini bus A1 (for the price of 300 RSD) and public bus line 72 (price ranging from 89-150 RSD depending on the type of ticket). The details and timetables can be found here.

By Car

Belgrade is located at the intersection of the European E-70 and E-75 highways. Foreign drivers in Serbia are required to have a national driver’s license, traffic permit and an insurance policy. The additional information can be found here.
